Geophagus surinamensis (Surinam Geophagus)

The Geophagus surinamensis, also known as the Surinam Geophagus, is a peaceful and elegant South American cichlid admired for its graceful shape, iridescent markings, and fascinating sand-sifting behaviour. These intelligent fish constantly sift fine sand through their mouths in search of food, making them one of the most interesting cichlids to observe.

Despite their size, Surinam Geophagus are gentle giants that do well in groups and can be kept with other peaceful South American cichlids and larger community fish. Their shimmering scales and flowing fins make them an impressive addition to any large aquarium.
